Cobalt Digital at BIRTV2017
Making its debut at BIRTV2017 is a new Cobalt system that combines frame-accurate SCTE 104 trigger (FAST) insertion with enhanced HLS SCTE 35 streaming on a single platform. Built for the openGear terminal gear platform, the FAST-STREAM system is a comprehensive solution for providing baseband SDI signals and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) streams with frame-accurate boundary points, complete with the SCTE 35 metadata contained in the associated manifest file. Applications range from URL address insertion for targeted ad replacement to embedded DRM for distributing protected content. The FAST-STREAM OTT system interfaces with automation and uses timestamps to insert metadata frame-accurately into baseband SDI before encoding the stream in high-quality H.264 for meeting sophisticated digital program insertion (DPI) delivery requirements in real time.
New 9934-AUD-PRO 3G/HD/SD-SDI Advanced Audio Processor
Cobalt’s latest broadcast-audio processor will be on display at BIRTV2017. The AUD-PRO represents the ultimate in integrated audio processing and encoding and is built on Cobalt’s 3G/HD/SD-SDI Analog and AES Audio Embedder/De-embedder. The hardware supports multiple accelerated DSP features that can be added in the field, including Linear Acoustic UPMAX upmixing and Dolby E, AC-3, and E-AC-3 decoding and encoding. Adding Dolby Real-Time Loudness Leveling (RTLL) makes the AUD-PRO a complete broadcast-audio processing solution. The AUD-PRO is highly scalable and provides the ability to add functionality as requirements change. The base embedder/de-embedder can be upgraded in the field via license keys that range from up/down/cross conversion with frame syncing to closed caption detection and error reporting.
9902-UDX-DSP-CI Channel Integrator
At BIRTV2017, Cobalt will highlight the 9902-UDX-DSP-CI channel integrator and 3G/HD/SD-SDI/CVBS up/down/cross-converter. The 9902-UDX-DSP-CI provides the densest signal conversion and processing toolset available for conforming incoming analog and digital audio and video signals and their associated metadata to meet sophisticated content- and channel-delivery requirements. Enhanced video processing includes broadcast-quality up/down/cross-conversion with noise reduction and detail enhancement. Standards conversion between 50Hz- and 59.94/60Hz-based video standards makes the 9902-UDX-DSP-CI perfect for rentals and international signal aggregators and distributors in the OTA, cable, DBS, and OTT markets. The channel integrator’s audio features include analog and AES audio embedding and de-embedding with multiple mixers and per-channel delay. Optional Linear Acoustic upmixing, Dolby decoding and encoding (E, AC-3, E-AC-3), and real-time loudness levelling.
+RTP/ARQ Automatic Repeat ReQuest Option
Visitors at BIRTV2017 will see Cobalt’s new +RTP/ARQ feature, which enables the company’s popular series of H.264 encoders and decoders to be used for error-free content delivery over the internet. +RTP/ARQ lowers overhead because, unlike SMPTE ST 2022 FEC, it doesn’t require redundant data to be sent along with the program content in order to recover any dropped packets. Instead, with +RTP/ARQ, the decoder sends a message to the encoder when packets are missing and requests only those packets be retransmitted. +RTP/ARQ is now included as standard in Cobalt openGear 9990-DEC-MPEG and stand-alone BBG-1190-DEC-MPEG decoders. It is available via license for the openGear 9223 and BBG-1123 encoders and can be added in the field.
New 9971-MV-4K Series 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD-SDI UHD Multiviewers
Also on display at BIRTV2017 will be Cobalt’s new 9971-MV-4K Series UHD multiviewers with 12G-SDI support. The multiviewers’ UHD 3840 x 2160 output is available via 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 concurrently, making them a cost-effective means of leveraging widely available consumer-grade 4K monitors. This makes more pixel space available to source signals while maintaining as much original picture information as possible. For flexibility in system design two models are available. The 9971-MV6-4K accepts six 12G-SDI inputs, with an order-time option to add four HDMI 2.0 inputs to the mix. For larger system requirements, the 9971-MV18-4K supports up to 18 12G-SDI inputs and will drive two independent UHD display outputs. The multiviewer modules are cascadable, which means users can expand the system as 4K production and broadcast become widely adopted.
New 9904-UDX-4K 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD-SDI UHD Up/Down/Cross-Converter
Visitors to Cobalt’s stand at BIRTV2017 will see the new 9904-UDX-4K 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD-SDI UHD up/down/cross-converter and frame synchroniser designed for openGear frames. The 9904 can up-convert 3G/HD to UHD1 3840 x 2160, providing either quad 3G-SDI-based square division or two-sample interleave formats, as well as single-wire ST 2082 12G-SDI. The unit can also perform the reverse in down-converter mode and has two HDMI 2.0 outputs for cost-efficient monitoring.
New BBG-DA-12G-1X6 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD-SDI/ASI/MADI UHD Throwdown Distribution Amplifier
Cobalt will introduce the BBG-DA-12G-1X6 brick form-factor UHD distribution amplifier to the market at BIRTV2017. With its cable-length performance of 100 meters over Belden 1694 cable at 12G-SDI, the unit is a problem-solving tool. The 12G-SDI re-clocking capability makes this distribution amplifier unit a great inline repeater for problematic cable runs or third-party equipment, and it can be powered via the included power supply or USB. When connected to the included BBGConfig USB monitoring and control software, the unit will display an eye-pattern view that can assist with basic troubleshooting.
9941-RTR Series SDI/ASI/MADI openGear Routers
Also at BIRTV2017, Cobalt will introduce the 9941-RTR series of SDI/ASI/MADI routers for the openGear form factor. Using the openGear platform, the 9941-RTR series provides a high-density card-based solution that offers flexibility, ease of use, and integration.
Offering the card-based flexibility and scalability of the openGear form factor, the 9941-RTR series encompasses 3G/HD/SD-SDI/ASI/MADI versions in sizes from 24 x 24 I/O to a 12 x 4 asymmetrical I/O configuration to suit a range of I/O requirements. A 12 x 4 12G/6G-SDI version is also available, as are rear I/O modules in standard BNC or high-density DIN 1.0/2.3 and HD-BNC formats.
The 9941-RTR series offers built-in ethernet ports, as well as multiple serial and GPIO control interfaces. It also supports easy-to-use JSON-based ReFLEX, SNMP, and third-party router protocols that allow for easy integration with A/V control and automation systems. GUI choices include an integrated HTML-5 web server and support for the DashBoard control system, whose user matrix provides easy manual routing setup. Support for multiple protocols allows users to design custom control panels that provide the most intuitive remote control and monitoring interfaces possible.
The 9941-RTR integrates with other Cobalt products, such as the 9970-QS expandable multiviewer cards with advanced on-screen graphics. This provides a reconfigurable, nonblocking 20 x 4 multiviewer, with configurations of four independent 5 x 1 multiviewers all the way up to a 17-window system – or any number of intermediate cascade combinations.
